John Doyle

John Doyle started his photography hobby in 1972 when he received his first single lens reflex (SLR) camera as an anniversary gift from his wife.  Shooting primarily color slides he mostly photographed flowers and sunsets and interesting patterns that he found in nature. Occasionally he used color infrared film and black and white infrared film with interesting results.

During the 1990’s he did not take many pictures because he felt limited by 35mm film.

His interest rose again two and a half years ago when he received a medium format camera as a birthday gift from his wife. The larger 120-film format inspired creativity and the chance to do interesting work in black & white as well as color.

He has started to show his work with some success. He has won ribbons at RMAA shows and in 2002 his photo, “Moonrise, Cadillac Mountain”, won best of show at the RMAA annual juried show. This June his photo “White Amaryllis” was selected for the juried show at the Hopper House Art Center photography show.

For John, photography permits him to be creative on his own terms, which in turn allows him to capture beauty wherever he sees it. He considers all sunsets and most flowers as beautiful.
